Hell yes, this is the country I live in, and one I’ll be more than happy to have a child in. I feel like I can breathe after eight years of being suffocated. And hope is not too cliche for the emotion I feel: it’s precise and accurate.
I held myself back from believing it could be done because it was too devastating in 2004 to realize enough people didn’t want to turn things around. The joy tonight is overwhelming and full and complete. We can be, and we are, better than all we had let fear twist us into. I’m so looking forward to tomorrow, but tonight and our accomplishments as a country are to be savored.
